This will become your new recipe for kraut. It takes a little longer to make but well worth the time since you’ll be in the kitchen anyway.
Sally’s Caramelized Kraut
Ingredients
- 1 bag Sauerkraut - drained
- 1 medium sweet onion – chopped
- 1 Granny Smith apple – peeled and chopped
- 1 stick butter
- ½ cup brown sugar
- 2 Tablespoons cider vinegar
- 2 whole cloves
Instructions
- Melt butter in frying pan, add onions, sauerkraut, brown sugar, cider vinegar and cloves.
- Cook covered over low heat for 20 minutes stirring often so that the onions and sauerkraut begin to caramelize.
- Add apples and cooked until the kruat is a nice caramel, brown color.
