This will become your new recipe for kraut. It takes a little longer to make but well worth the time since you’ll be in the kitchen anyway.

 

Sally’s Caramelized Kraut

Ingredients
  

  • 1 bag Sauerkraut - drained
  • 1 medium sweet onion – chopped
  • 1 Granny Smith apple – peeled and chopped
  • 1 stick butter
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • 2 Tablespoons cider vinegar
  • 2 whole cloves

Instructions
 

  • Melt butter in frying pan, add onions, sauerkraut, brown sugar, cider vinegar and cloves.
  • Cook covered over low heat for 20 minutes stirring often so that the onions and sauerkraut begin to caramelize.
  • Add apples and cooked until the kruat is a nice caramel, brown color.
